Summary

Presents selected tools for formulating the policy and implementing programmes to extend social security coverage to the population in the informal economy. Data mainly but not exclusively adapts to the Philippines context.

Part I covers generic publications and training materials dealing with social security and social protection. Most of these tools are of general nature and thus applicable to all countries. It is important for any experts who work on the extension of social security to be aware of these generic tools.

Part II presents a collection of case studies. Case studies are instructive for the formulation of realistic policies. One can draw lessons by analyzing successful and unsuccessful examples and identifying success factors and hindering factors.

Part III summarizes selected web-based information resources.

Part IV provides a list of available training opportunities for social security.
