Summary

In 2009, Argentina introduced the Universal Child Allowance (UCA) in response to the effects of the global economic crisis. The objective was to consolidate several non-contributory transfer programmes for families with children.

The provision of income insurance for families with children and adolescents is made up of three components: contributory family allowances (CFA), non-contributory family allowances and tax deductions from income for higher earners. Together, these three components reach 10.6 million or 84.6 per cent of children and adolescents in Argentina.
