Summary

This note sketches out the role of social protection in achieving progress towards preventing homelessness, including by addressing some of its root causes, and promoting access to adequate, safe and affordable housing. In particular, the note highlights how universal social protection systems that are developed in accordance with human rights principles and ILO social security standards can contribute to preventing homelessness and facilitating access to adequate, safe and affordable housing.
