Description

From Annual report 2019-2020

  • The 2019 presidential elections were annulled due to fraud in the counting of votes. Following the court decision, new presidential elections were scheduled for June 23, 2020.
  • Given the lead time from court decision to the election day, most political parties ran with similar programmes as 2019, but with some changes – particularly new political alliances.
  • The ILO has revised the Political Manifestos Analysis Report produced in 2019 to update for the 2020 developments. The report was also expanded to an analysis of the composition of the National Parliament, as means to inform what SP policies the legislative body of Malawi support, and support a constructive debate on how to put these policies into reality.
  • The report will be discussed in a public event with representatives of the main political parties, media and other stakeholders, focusing on how the newly elected government and parliament intend to implement the campaign promises and proposals
